Ingebrigt Håker Flaten Quintet was established during the autumn 2004
and is a long wanted constellation Ingebrigt got invited to put together by
the Kongsberg Jazzfestival after receiving the prestigious "Vital prize"
award from the same festival in 2004. The first constelation of the band consisted
of Anders Hana on guitar, Klaus Holm on saxophones, Fredrik Rundqvist on drums
and Ola Kvernberg on violin and the bands first concert at the Kongsberg Jazzfestival
in July -05 got by the press described as one of the festivals highlights that
year. The quintet recordet their first CD in the fall after this which was released
in may 06 on Jazzland records (QUINTET 985 953-1).
The music can be described as an almost eclectic blend of jazz, rock electronic
music and free improvisation but still with their own distinguished sound, and
is mainly based on Ingebrigt´s compositions. The variety of the reportoair
is also explaind by material taken from musicians such like Thelonius Monk,
Steve Lacy, Charlie Haden, Anthony Braxton, Marvin Gaye, George Russel and the
norwegian bassplayer Bjørnar Andresen.
After Ingebrigt moved to Chicago in 2006 he changed the lineup to Dave Rempis
on saxophones, Jeff Parker on guitar and Frank Rosaly on drums, Ola is still
the man on the fiddle.
The new lineup did their first extensive tour in March 07 where they played
16 concerts around in scandinavia. A live recording from this tour is gonna
be released on Jazzland recordings in winter 07/08 and a new european tour are
under process for March 2008.
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten [bass]. Ingebrigt has
partisipated on around 70 recordings and have been a bassplayer in leading Norwegian
groups such as Bugge Wesseltofts "new conceptions of jazz", The Source,
Element, Close Erase, and have for many years been an important jazzmusicians
in Norway.
Besides doing solo performances and leading his own quintet, he is also today
receiving great international attention with the groups Atomic, The Thing (w/Mats
Gustafson), Scorch Trio (w/Raoul Bjoerkenheim), Free Fall (w/Ken Vandermark),
Paal Nilssen-Love Quartet (w/Evan Parker and Sten Sandel) and The Electrics
(w/Axel Dörner, Sture Ericson and Raymond Strid).
Ingebrigt have in addition to this played with great improvisers and musicians
such as Peter Brötzman, Paul Lytton, Dave Liebman, Fred Anderson, Fred
Lonberg-Holm, Jim Baker, Jeb Bishop, Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Yusef Lateef,
Tony Oxley, Dr.L.Subramaniam, Billy Cobham, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter and
Zim Ngquana to mention a few.
With his unique sound both as a bassplayer and a composer Ingebrigt Haaker Flaten
have already established himself as one of the most flexible young players on
the international circiut today!
Dave Rempis [alt/tenor/baritone saxophones].Over the
last few years, Dave Rempis has emerged as one of the most active young players
in the Chicago jazz and improvised music scene. His work with the Vandermark
Five has established him as one of the up-and-coming voices of his generation,
and has also provided him the opportunity to perform extensively in clubs, concert
halls, and festivals throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. His own groups,
including Triage, The Engines, Wheelhouse, The Rempis/Daisy Duo, The Dave Rempis
Quartet, and the Rempis Percussion Quartet, have been documented on the Okkadisk,
482 Music, Solitaire, and Utech record labels. His frequent ad hoc collaborations
have included performances with Paul Lytton, Axel Doerner, Peter Brotzmann,
Hamid Drake, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Michael Zerang, Jim Baker, Kevin Drumm, Paal
Nilssen-Love, Tony Buck, and Joe Morris. He also curates a weekly improvised-music
concert series at Elastic, a performance space in Chicago’s Logan Square
neighborhood.
Jeff Parker [guitar]. Known for blurring musical boundaries.
Best known for his membership in the band Tortoise, the Chicago-based guitarist/composer
can be heard on numerous recordings with some of contemporary music's most influential
and innovative artists: Fred Anderson, Brian Blade, Joshua Redman, (Smog), Blur,
George Lewis, Chicago Underground, Isotope 217, Guillermo Gregorio, Kevin Drumm,
and Ernest Dawkins' New Horizons Ensemble, to name but a few. Parker can be
seen performing regularly around Chicago, but also at many of the world's premier
music venues and festivals, and he is currently working to establish his own
unique relationship between electronic and acoustic compositional properties
in music.

Ola Kvernberg [violin]. After his breakthrough at
the ”Djangofestival” in 2000 in Oslo with Hot Club de Norwege he
has today finished his education at the ”Jazz-department” at the
Music Academy in Trondheim. Since 2000 he have toured extensively and participated
on about twenty recordings, two as a bandleader. He is today working mostly
with his own trio. Ola have collaborated with musicians like Niels-Henning Ørsted
Pedersen, Philip Catherine, Pat Metheny, Doug Raney, Come Shine, Hot Club de
Norwege, Jonas Fjeld and Vidar Busk to mention a few.
Frank Rosaly [drums]. Frank Rosaly, originally from
Arizona, currently resides in Chicago where he has been involved in the improvised
music scene since 2001. He has become an active member in many groups including
Chicago Luzern Exchange, Rob Mazurek's Mandarin Movie, Fred Lomberg-Holm's Valentine
Trio, Ken Vandermark's Crisis Ensemble, Indoor/Outdoor, Dave Rempis' Percussion
Quartet and his own octet, Kite. He is also involved in projects such as Rolldown,
Wealthsource, Fast Citizens, James Falzone's Allos IV, Desiring Machines, Meta-Stable
Zoo, the Nick Broste Quintet, Matt Ulery Quintet, Soft Beater (frank's solo
drumming project) and others. He has also been performing with some of Chicago's
best musicians such as Jim Baker, Matt Lux, Kent Kessler, Tim Daisy, Guillermo
Gregorio, Jeff Parker, David Boykin, Niki Mitchell, Keefe Jackson, Aram Shelton,
Josh Berman, Bill Brimfield, Josh Abrams, Anton Hatwich, Jason Ajemian, Nate
McBride as well as New York musicians Steve Swell, Anthony Coleman, Alan Licht,
Dominic Lalli and Matana Roberts, Wilco's Nels Cline, and Bill Brovold. Frank
has been involved with multiple national and international tours over the last
3 years.
