While my years as a freelancer in Oslo (1995-2005) I established a strong friendship with bassplayer Bjørnar Andresen (who sadly died in 2004). Bjørnar was one of the key musicians in the 60’s ‘avant garde’ movement in Norway through his work with the ‘legendary’ Svein Finnerud Trio and ‘famed’ Jan Garbarek. Bjørnar had also a strong connection to George Russel who lived at Bjørnar’s home in Oslo for longer stretches of time back in those days. Bjørnar was an important inspiration for me both as a musician and a creative soul and after his departure in 2004 the ‘big band’ Crimetime Orchestra -led by alto player and Jazzaway founder Jon Klette- released the album “Life is a beautiful monster” that was recorded together with Bjørnar and later released to honor his legacy.

In 2008 this group also released the album “atomic symphony” which was a production under Oslo Jazzfestival in 2007, where this improvising big band did music together with the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra and legendary tenor player Sonny Simmons, a quite unique combination of musicians!
