The Electrics is an international group which members are renowned through their
extensive backgrounds within free jazz and improvised music. (Longstanding and
ongoing collaborations of the members has included artists such as Barry Guy,
Alex von Schlippenbach, Phil Minton and Ken Vandermark, among many others).
The members’ wealth of experiences is reflected in the music of the group.
This music grows partly out of the awareness of, and interest in experimenting
with the possibilities of sound through so called extended techniques on the
instruments – a musical universe associated with the free improvised music
of Europe. The other musical fundament consists of the modes of expression and
the rhythmic energy associated with free jazz. The Electrics blend these different
influences into a musical form that is unmistakably their own.
The Electrics was founded in 2000 and has during the last two years begun to
get an international recognition. Their debutCD (Chains of accidents) has received
great response from enthusiastic critics worldwide and the band has performed
at various international festivals, such as The Vancouver International Jazz
Festival (2002), the Seattle Improvised Music Festival (2002), the Nickelsdorf
Konfrontationen (2003), Tampere Jazz Happening (2003) and Jazz à Mulhouse
(2004).
