“Flaten’s Chicago Sextet is evidence that just the tip of this Scandinavian turned Texan’s iceberg has been discovered.”

- All About Jazz

“The six musicians succeed in stitching a tremendous amount of activity and variety into the album’s relatively terse running time, and while not every detour delivers the same degree of dividends, the ambitious scope of the project is worth admiring.”

- Dusted Magazine

“The Nordic bassist, now living in Austin, shows with this LP that in addition to being one of the best with the four strings at present, he is also a remarkable composer and arranger: – Tomajazz

In 2004 I established the first group in my own name; a quintet consisting of musicians from Oslo and Stockholm with Klaus Holm (NO) on alto, Anders Hana (NO) on guitar, Ola Kvernberg (NO) on violin and Fredrik Rundquist (SE) on drums. When I moved to Chicago in 2006, the ”group idea” traveled with me. I kept the instrumentation from the Scandinavian incarnation of the group, but changed the all of the instrumentalists-save for Ola. Added during the summer of 2011 was vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz, to round out the IHF Chicago Sextet.

We are now working on an extensive European tour from November 24th to December 7th 2014! For booking inquire contact Arco Y Flecha/Sergio Merino :

In 2012 we released the LP ‘Live at Jazzfest Saalfelden 2011′, it was released on Tektite Records, you can buy/listen to this record from my webshop here

The Sextet did another performance summer 2012 at the ‘Jazz em Agosto‘ in Lisbon.

“The final concert in the garden was also one of the best, with bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten’s Chicago Sextet achieving rare levels of drive and invention, with fellow Norwegian Ola Kvernberg channeling the ghosts of jazz-rock violin and an assemblage of the Midwest’s finest. Guitarist Jeff Parker and drummer Frank Rosaly were as adept at overdriven rock as free jazz. Vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz and saxophonist Dave Rempis were brilliant, the latter’s unaccompanied exploration of baritone multiphonics lingering long after the festival’s final note.” Bill Schumaker/The Wire
