I began playing in this group while I was still a student at the Music Conservatory in Trondheim. Trygve and Øyvind established The Source in 1992 as a reflection of various European and American free-jazz traditions. The 1994 album ”Olemans Kornett”, a tribute to Ornette Coleman (as the anagram of the album title suggests), is now a Norwegian classic. During a six week European tour in 1994,we took Second Place at the ”Leverkusener Jazztage’s”-a yearly jazz competition. In 1995 we recorded ”The Source of Christmas” where we did our version of popular Christmas carols. We also did various ‘obscure’ concerts together with Scandinavian and American hip-hop artists, rock groups and performance artists throughout those years. One of those concerts was together with amazing Norwegian rock group; Motorpsycho, at the Kongsberg Jazzfestival in 1995. This performance got documented on the album “The Motor Source Massacre”. I chose to quit the group in 1996, but The Source went on to become a well established presence on the ECM label. They even tour their own annual Christmas show every December around Norway.
