Petter Wettre – saxophones
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten – bass
Jarle Vespestad – drums

After wrapping up my studies at the Music Conservatory in Trondheim in ’95, I moved to Oslo and one of the first groups that I started playing with was “The Trio”, with Petter Wettre and Jarle Vespestad. This band was Petter’s playground as a saxophone player and composer; he had just returned to Norway after studying at The Berkley School of Music. The Trio’s music consisted entirely of Petter’s compositions, which were very rooted in the American Jazz tradition. We recorded four albums and did numerous Scandinavian tours. The 1999 album “In Color”, was recorded at the home of David Liebman, Petter’s ‘saxophone hero’, who also played on the album. We played “The Knitting Factory” in NYC and toured Norway with Dave, as a quartet. In 2011 the Oslo Jazz Festival invited “The Trio” to do a reunion concert, which was a great success despite the ten years that had passed since we last played together.
